Joshua 6:20 recounts the miraculous moment when the walls of Jericho collapsed after the Israelites followed God’s instructions. This verse reminds us that victory comes through faith and obedience to God’s commands. Even when challenges seem insurmountable, trusting in God's plan and acting in faith will lead to breakthroughs. No matter how big the obstacles in our lives appear, God is able to bring them down.
"When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city." (Joshua 6:20)
The battle of Jericho is one of the most famous victories in the Bible. The Israelites were facing a heavily fortified city with walls that seemed impenetrable. But instead of fighting with traditional weapons, God gave them an unusual strategy—march around the city for six days, and on the seventh day, shout and blow the trumpets. When they obeyed, the impossible happened—the walls fell, and they claimed the victory.
This story teaches us several powerful lessons about faith, obedience, and God’s miraculous power.
The battle plan for Jericho didn’t make sense from a human perspective. No army would normally win a battle by marching and shouting. Yet, God’s ways are higher than ours ( Isaiah 55:8-9 ). He doesn’t always work in ways we expect, but His plans are always perfect.
Are you facing a situation where you don’t understand what God is doing? Trust in His wisdom, even when the plan doesn’t seem logical.
The Israelites had to march around Jericho and shout before they saw the walls fall. Their faith was demonstrated through action.
God calls us to step out in faith, even when we can’t see the results yet. Is there something in your life that requires action on your part?
The Israelites followed God’s exact instructions. If they had ignored His commands or tried to fight in their own strength, they would not have seen the walls fall.
When we obey God’s voice, even in the small things, we position ourselves for breakthroughs. Are you walking in obedience to what God has told you?
The walls of Jericho were tall, thick, and intimidating. But no wall—physical or spiritual—is too strong for God.
What are the "walls" in your life?
Just as God brought down Jericho’s walls, He can bring down the obstacles in your life. Trust Him for your breakthrough!
The Israelites didn’t win the battle through their own strength or wisdom—it was God’s power that gave them the victory. When we rely on God, He fights for us and brings victory in ways we could never achieve on our own.
No matter what battle you are facing, know that God is on your side. When you put your trust in Him, you will overcome!
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being a God of victory. Just as You brought down the walls of Jericho, I trust that You can bring down every obstacle in my life. Strengthen my faith so that I may walk in obedience to Your Word, even when I don’t understand Your plan.
Lord, help me to step forward in faith, knowing that You are with me. Teach me to listen to Your voice, trust in Your timing, and believe in Your power to make a way when there seems to be none.
I surrender my battles to You, knowing that the victory belongs to You alone. May my life be a testimony of Your faithfulness and power.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
