"Living Ready: Trusting God in the Unknown"

Matthew 24:36 reminds us of a great mystery: no one knows the exact day or hour of Christ’s return—not even the angels, nor the Son, but only the Father. This verse shifts our focus from prediction to preparation. It invites us to live not in fear of the unknown, but in faith, readiness, and daily obedience to God. When we don’t know the timeline, we learn to walk closely with the One who holds it.

Meditation

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”
(Matthew 24:36)

This bible verse sits within Jesus’ teaching on the end times—a topic that often stirs both fascination and fear. But instead of offering exact dates or timelines, Jesus centers our hearts on a deeper truth: trust and readiness matter more than knowing details .

His words speak directly to our human tendency to seek control and certainty. We want to know when things will happen so we can prepare at our own pace. But Jesus calls us to something greater: a life of constant vigilance, humble faith, and obedient living .

1. God Holds the Future, Not Us

Jesus plainly says no one—not even He in His earthly ministry—knows the hour of His return. That truth reminds us that God alone is sovereign over time and history .

  • Ecclesiastes 3:11 – “He has made everything beautiful in its time... yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

  • Proverbs 19:21 – “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

Instead of demanding answers, we are called to trust the One who holds time in His hands.

2. Faithful Living Is Greater Than Fearful Waiting

The goal isn’t to predict Christ’s return, but to live faithfully as if it could be today . Jesus invites us to be spiritually awake, to serve with love, and to remain anchored in Him.

  • Matthew 24:42 – “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”

  • Luke 12:35 – “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning.”

A life of readiness isn’t rigid—it’s relational. We stay prepared by staying close to Jesus, growing in love, holiness, and purpose.

3. Live with Hope, Not Anxiety

Not knowing the timing of Christ’s return isn’t meant to scare us—it’s meant to set us free. We are freed from the pressure of controlling outcomes and invited to rest in God’s perfect timing .

  • Philippians 4:6-7 – “Do not be anxious about anything… and the peace of God… will guard your hearts.”

  • Romans 13:11 – “...the hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.”

When we fix our eyes on Jesus, we don’t fear the unknown. We find peace in His presence, even in uncertainty.

Bible verse of the day

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being the One who holds time, history, and eternity in Your hands. Thank You that even when I don’t know what tomorrow holds, I can trust the One who does.

Help me not to live in fear of the unknown, but in faith that You are coming again. Teach me to be ready—not by anxious waiting, but by walking daily in love, obedience, and purpose.

Let my heart stay anchored in You. May my life reflect Your kingdom until the day You return. Keep me watchful, humble, and full of hope.

In Jesus' name,
Amen.
