Ephesians 4:24 calls us to a life transformed by Christ. It challenges us to "put on the new self," created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. This verse reminds us that following Jesus isn’t just about behavior modification—it’s about embracing a whole new identity. As we grow in faith, we are invited to shed the old life and live out the character of Christ daily.
“And to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
(Ephesians 4:24)
In Ephesians 4, Paul is encouraging believers to walk in a manner worthy of their calling. He speaks of leaving behind the "old self"—corrupted by deceitful desires—and instead putting on a "new self," created in God’s image. This is not just a suggestion for spiritual growth; it is a call to intentional transformation
.
When we come to Christ, we don’t just get a fresh start—we receive a new identity. The "new self" is not something we earn; it is given by grace. It reflects the nature of Christ—marked by righteousness, purity, compassion, humility, and love.
2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
Colossians 3:10 – “And have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”
This new identity calls us to live not by the standards of the world, but by the truth and character of Christ.
Just like we get dressed every day, we must spiritually clothe ourselves in the new life God has given us. It’s an intentional decision to reflect His righteousness in our attitudes, speech, and actions.
Romans 13:14 – “Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Galatians 5:25 – “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”
Living in the new self means choosing forgiveness over bitterness, truth over lies, purity over compromise, and love over pride. It’s not always easy, but it is always worth it.
Paul says the new self is “created to be like God.” That’s the goal—not perfection, but reflection. As we grow in faith, the Holy Spirit transforms us to mirror God’s righteousness and holiness.
1 Peter 1:15-16 – “Be holy in all you do, for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’”
Matthew 5:16 – “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
This kind of transformation isn’t instant—it’s a lifelong journey. But with each step, we grow more into who God designed us to be.
Bible verse of the day
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the new life I have in Christ. Thank You for Your grace that has rescued me from the old self and clothed me in righteousness and holiness.
Help me to walk in this new identity daily. Let my life reflect Your love, Your truth, and Your holiness. Transform my mind, renew my heart, and fill me with Your Spirit, so I may live as a true reflection of who You are.
When I’m tempted to fall back into old ways, remind me that I am a new creation in You. Let my words, actions, and thoughts bring You glory as I grow into the fullness of the person You created me to be.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
